On Saturday 22nd October it was Nutkhut Takeover Day! A fun family day of making, dancing, creating and food to celebrate this wonderful Festival of Lights.
We created an intergenerational day to rejoice in all things Diwali. Attendees learned to make a sustainable lantern and joined our twilight lantern parade. Others decorated a diya, danced like a Bollywood star and designed a Rangoli.
We sipped on steaming chai before watching the switching on of 'Light Up The Museum' - major light installations - Laxmi by Chila Kumari Singh Burman and Winter Melon by Jessica Hung Han Yun in the Museum gardens and on the Museum façade to bring light and brightness to the cold winter months.
'Til 31 Oct.. The Night before Diwali, a room vignette showing a British South Indian front room amid Diwali preparations - a window into the magical delights of this global festival on the eve of Diwali.
This unique installation will remain at the museum into 2023, where our room changes from a Diwali to Christmas theme.

Starting off our Month of Diwali Celebrations we presented our award-winning sculptural Lotus in Trafalgar Square as part of Diwali on the Square 2022.
‘What the Tree is to Christmas, the Lotus is to Diwali' – annually, we’ve placed our Lotus in the heart of London – Trafalgar Square.
This enchanting sculpture evokes the symbolism of the festival of light.
